What is your frequency and method of communication with clients?
  • Frequency and method of communication is dependent on your package choice (all package choices are listed under the “Services” tab).

What are your beliefs about sleep training/what is your sleep training philosophy?
  • I believe that it is reasonable for every family to choose not only whether to sleep train their child, but also to choose how to sleep train their child. I do not adhere to a “one size fits all” approach. I offer many different techniques to teach your child independent sleep skills. The techniques range from very hands-on approaches that involve gradual weaning of physical support to approaches that involve leaving the room and returning for checks with or without physical support, and numerous other techniques in between.

I use the information from the very detailed sleep intake form I send you to determine which technique I believe will work best for you and your child. If after receipt and discussion of your customized sleep plan you feel the technique I have suggested is not doable, we will discuss other options that may work for your specific situation, and I will explain whether I think such other techniques/options will result in your child taking longer to learn independent sleep skills than if the technique I have initially recommended is followed (and whether I think that time will extend beyond the term of the package you have selected).

What are your general views on crying?
  • I do not offer “no cry” sleep training techniques. Why? Because crying is how our children communicate with us. Some children will breeze right through sleep training with very little crying, while other, perhaps more sensitive, children will cry no matter what you are doing.

  • Our children cry to communicate that they are hungry, tired, have a dirty diaper, etc. They also cry when they are overwhelmed because they cannot regulate their emotions, or when they are upset and wish to express it.

  • Just like many of us, our children may not like change. If you have been using various methods to help your child fall asleep and you decide or choose to do something differently, your child may initially cry to signal they are not happy with the change.

  • If you would like to know more about why no cry sleep solutions do not work while sleep training and would like to review research regarding crying, please let me know during our discovery call as I have information I can send to you to review.

Can I continue to bedshare while sleep training?
  • I respect each family’s choice when it comes to where their children sleep. However, I will respectfully ask that when we start working together your end goal must be to have your child sleeping in their own sleep space, which can mean either a room-sharing situation or the child’s own room (but in either case in their own individual sleep space).

  • None of the techniques I use include you sleeping in the same sleep space as your child during our time working together, and I thus highly recommend not going back to bed-sharing once our time working together is complete.

What are the expectations and boundaries of the client/consultant relationship?
  • Each of my packages details the amount and type of support to be provided. I will always communicate with you in the form(s) your selected package provides, and I ask that you do the same (i.e. email or phone support, rather than communication through social media). Should issues arise with communication during our time working together, I will always work with you to come up with a plan of action to try to best meet your needs.

Do I have to wean my child from night feeding in order to successfully sleep train?
  • No! Weaning your child from night feeds is not required to successfully sleep train them*, but if it is your goal to eliminate night feeds, we can do that. All I ask is that you get the okay from your child’s pediatrician before discontinuing night feeds.

    • *I continued to feed my son two times a night when initially sleep training him and gradually weaned him down to one night feeding and then ultimately no night feedings around the age of 1 (so 8 months AFTER sleep training him I weaned his final night feeding).

Does sleep training mean my child will no longer wake up at night?
  • No:

    • Adults and children wake up multiple times per night, but the goal with sleep training is to give your child the independent skills they need to go back to sleep after these wake-ups.

    • Travel, teething, illness, regressions, etc. are also many reasons why your child may continue to have night wakings following the sleep training process, but if you have a good foundation to fall back on you can always implement your sleep training method to get through these rough patches!

Does sleep training mean I can never hold my child to sleep again?
  • No! You can still comfort your child as needed during illness as you feel is appropriate. There may be the need to go back to your sleep training method once the illness has passed, but this time the independent sleep skills come much quicker!

Do you have a money-back guarantee?
  • During our discovery call, we will be discussing your goals. You will also have the opportunity to reiterate your goals on the sleep intake form. As long as you have realistic goals or we work together to come up with realistic goals for your child, you are consistent and accurate when logging your child’s sleep using the Rested App, you communicate with me and we work as a team to teach your child independent sleep skills, I expect your child to meet or exceed the goals we have set for them. In the event your child’s goals have not been met at the end of our time together, I will continue to work with you by offering a few additional support emails and/or calls on a case-by-case basis, but ultimately I do not provide a money-back guarantee, as there are numerous factors that may affect any given child’s sleep patterns.
